Fishtail braids how to

The most viewed post of mine is one that shows french plaits/braids therfore I thought I woould do a similar post on Fishtail braids which is another type of braid that people often are not aware of how to do.
Below I have explained how to do the braids in the simplest way I can. I have also put on some pictures of fishtail braids that I think look very impressive. I have worn this look on several occasions and even though it does take longer than the usual three parted braid it does look much more complicated and it is in my opinion easier to do. It looks best I think as a side braid and messy on top so that it doesnt look too "done". They could also been done with much smaller sections rather than being done with all of the hair.

Heres how to do it,
  • Unlike the usual braid it only needs two sections of hair rather than three. This is another thing that makes it easier.
  • After you have seperated your hair into two main sections you simply gather a very small part from one of the two main sections for this example from the left and pull it over to the other main right section.
  • This is then repeated but from right side over to the left side, so a small part is taken from the right side and put over to be part of the left side.
  • This is repeated untill all of the hair has been crossed you shall see the pattern start to form. This can also been seen in the insturction image shown below.

The New Knitwear

A recent trend that has been featured in many magazines including ELLE and I believe in Vogue, is the new way to wear knitwear. In recent months cardigans have been oversized boyish types which I have to state I love! For spring of 2012 however the trend is to wear smaller neatly fitting cardigans that simulate those worn by women in the 1950's and early 1960's. The trend is also to wear them with knee length skirts for the complete look and to also wear a shirt underneath so that a collar is visible. This is the look that Lara Stone has took however she has a jumper not a cardigan, either works perfectly.
This is something I want to try as it is not a usual approach for me, I always tend to buy oversized knitted jumpers and cardigans that can be worn with leggings etc for that easy laid back look. A smaller cardigan however is a ladylike looking piece that does not share the easy laid back appeal.
I have found some pictures mostly vintage ones of the real deal worn at the time.

ITS CHRISTMAS!...

...as said in the words of Slade. Today I have found some pictures of celebs in santa hats and costumes looking more stylish than most.
It was quite hard to find pictures of celebs dressed as santa looking stylish. I have however found three which you can look at.
And another thing Merry Christmas!

The Row Lizard Handbag

I recently saw a picture of Mary-Kate and Ashley with two of their own creations from The Row, a small lizard shoulder bag in light blue and a matching clutch. I really like the colour that they were holding but I looked on the website to find they only had a similar shoulder bag in a yellow or black not the lovely blue.
I really like the blue especially with the clothes that they are wearing (also The row).
The yellow bag I found, is made from 100% lizard skin something that personally I do not agree with therefore I found an alternate option that is both ethically and economically right. The alternate is one I found from Peacocks a UK based shop I am sure though there are many other similar designs in shops across the globe.

My Little Pony

The ponytail is an all round classic and can be worn high or low on the head this is nothing new, however this season as well as next it is a big hit on all of the catwalk/runway shows including Missoni and Louis Vuitton.
I have to say these are the two designer looks that caught my eye. Missoni for their quite new take on the classic ponytail by having it looped which gives the messy undone look appeal and Louis vuitton this season for the classic retro looking curls and long glossy hair.
The look is about having shiny glistening (another major trend for 2012) hair that screams minamilistic charm.

Miu Miu

Miu Miu's recent 2011 A/W campaign had the face of Hailee Steinfeld. Hailee is now 15 years old but only 14 when the the campaign was made. The pictures caught my eye when reading through last months ELLE magazine. It not only caught my eye, I was sat staring at it!
For me personally it portrays the life of a young girl who is in love with her mothers clothes or style as most young girls are, with the love they have for clothes and shoes especially in the one of Hailee laying down.
Not only are the pictures lovely with a vintage look about them incorporating the 1940's trend of this season, they also show the lovely glitter boots that if I had the money I would most surely buy.

I would love to have this many glitter shoes!

Or this many!

Leopard Print eyes

Its the party season, and only 5 days untill christmas! This is a look that I used after I discovered something similar on Youtube ages ago however im not sure what video it was so sorry on that front, however this is what I did and some images of similar things.
  • Firstly yourll need to pick a bright colour, I used hot pink however you could use a rich light blue or a metalic green its completely up to you. You need to apply this all over the eye over a layer of foundation (this will help it stick to the eyelid). To apply the colour simply pat onto the eye with a brush or even your finger, this will give you better colour and coverage.
  • Secondly you need a liquid eyeliner, this part may need some practise! I simply used "C" shaped blobs as well as simple "dot" shapes to give the leopard print appeal.I did this from the middle of the eyelid out (see below).
  • After this apply a layer of mascara on both top and bottom lashes and your done! p.s i used bright pink mascara this would work if you used pink too.
This is my finished look,

Hope you can see! It started to fade as I had, had it on a while.

Extreme colour blocking brights

Recently in the depths of winter I have been stuck in the same colour palete being browns blacks and beige's, dont get me wrong I love the simplicity and sophisticated look they can create but I have recently wanted to go out of my comfort zone and try blocks of bright colour.

Hot pink with Black a more toned down aproach

My blue coat (not a personal photo)

These pictures are from the Alice + Olivia Resort 2012 which I came across after searching for colour blocking looks for 2012 s/s. The top one is one I thought I could recreate as I love the hot pink. The blue coat is a coat I purchased a couple of years back ive always been unsure to wear it because it is so bright but I think I might wear it now to add some needed colour to my look.

Fringes or Bangs

Hey! Long time since I did a post it has been a busy year! Anyway, this post is about fringes and bangs, I recently cut my fringe shorter than normal as a full fringe and im mixed on whether I like it or not. Fringes and bangs have been seen on many and I think that they are very flattering depending on what face shape you have. They do however take a lot of work and effort if you are thinking of having one too because especially with dark roots they tend to look greasy a lot even after washing so yourll need your bastiste dry shampoo by the bulkload!
Amy Lee

Zooey Deschanel

Mischa Barton

All of these looks are amazing I think they look especially good in brown hair especially on Zooey on her recent Rimmel ad campaigns shown above. Im not ready to dye my hair however, Im dark blonde.

Cat Eyeliner

I have been inspired recently by Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn again for their iconic beauty and have been trying to create the look (which was very famous during the 1950's and 1960's) which is the thick cat eyeliner. I think that the look is very glamorous and something quite simple so at the same time it can be worn everyday.
The best way to wear this is with matte perfect skin with a hint of blush, and possibly a red lip this will help to recreate Marilyns look and for Audrey ditch the red lip and pair the eyeliner with a pale colour instead (this is what she would usually wear, but she is wearing a darker tone in the photograph shown).

Chloe

Make-up used at the fashion show

Possibly my fav' look

Another fav' look

An interesting bag shape!

I have always been a fan of Chloe since I saw the fashion show (not actually there though i wud of liked to have been) A/W 2010 and ever since I have been following the clothes seen in each season. These are a few picks of the latest collection A/W 2011/2012. It is again very classic looking and looks expensive but understated which seems to be a theme with Chloe clothes and accessaries. I picked my two favourites looks from the Chloe Lookbook found on the chloe website, www.chloe.com .

French Plaits / Braids

French Plaits

Plaits seen at Alexandre Wang
The length I want!
I have only just found out from several You tube videos how to do a French Plait but I'm really loving the results. I really wish my hair would grow faster as I LOVE the length of the hair shown in the last picture just have to wait!
The first picture looks to have taken ages! Its almost perfect and looks amazing, I'm guessing that they simply did French plaits down each side of the head and then twisted the two plaits into a bun.
This look could easily be worn for a daily basis by having a side messy plait like the second and third pictures, this look is very undone but at the same time very chic.
