Jean Shrimpton - We'll take Manhatten

"Well take Manhatten" was a great documentary on television (in the UK) recently about Jean Shrimpton and David Bailey. It was about their lives and how they got to be so famous in the 1960's.
Jean Shrimpton is a famous model that was very big in the 60's she started modelling in her teens, and soon became one of the biggest models around.
David Bailey is one of the best photographers who changed the way that models were photographed and how fashion was portrayed in the big magazines.
Both are icons and are still very famous to this day. Jean was portrayed by Karen Gillian and David Bailey by Aneurin Barnard they both were great actors in the programme and I would definately reccomend watching it if you are interested in fashion and the 1960's!
I have take inspiration from the clothes shown and the hair and well, everything!
I would definantly like to wear things like this especially the green dress and jumper and skirt combo.

Pastel clothing

A trend that has been featured in every magazine including Vogue and Elle, is pastel, candy coloured, clothing. It is just the right way to start of spring/summer of 2012. They look fantastic with variations of pinks, blues and greens all put together.
Also in every magazine is a moodboard of designer pieces that really highlight the trend. I thought that I could do one of these myself with however high street pieces that cost a lot less and still had the same effect and eye catching qualities.
All of the pieces I have chosen can be worn in several ways and look devine with almost anything. They have all come from River Island, to buy them simply go to www.Riverisland.co.uk .

Tamsin Egerton - Posh Totty!

She is the main Posh Totty in the great films St Trinians and St Trinians 2. She has always been a hair muse of mine as she has the fullest and longest hair around! I wish mine was that thick!
She wears it in several ways but always with her statement curls in the films. She also wears a bow in her hair which I think looks really cute in the second film. In the second to last picture shown, you can see that she has a fishtail braid with a fascinater on the top of her head but only a very small, black, netted type.
A great way to recreate this look is with either curling tongs which works better if your hair is already curly as with straight hair this method doesn't last that long. The other way is to french plait your hair on both sides of your head into pigtails and leave it to dry overnight.
She also looks very glamorous with her make-up and clothes in the films. The make-up that she wears is quite minimal with a slick of lip gloss and blue eyeshadow with mascara put mostly on the outside lashes. She also looks to wear bronzer and some light pink blusher.
Here is Tamsin as Chelsea.
A little editing I did.

The Messy Ponytail

I have been experimenting with my hair a bit more recently (hence the amount of hair posts I have done) and one of the looks that I have come to like is the really messy ponytail.
This look is one that people either love or hate. It has a really undone look about it that some people find hard to like. I however love the undone look so the messier and the more fly-aways, the better!
To give a ponytail texture you could use styling tools or other products but I find that the best way is to simply plait your hair overnight to make it slightly wavy and slightly frizzy. This gives you natural easy texture that takes no effort at all! You could spray with hairspray however, if your scared it will go flat.
I think that this look is great with little make-up, and with or without bangs.
Here are some pictures I have found that influenced me into trying the look.

A very messy side ponytail.

Bring on the flower power! - Floral Fashion

A trend that we are seeing a lot of for this spring/summer is the floral trend.
Floral fashion has usually been soft colours and very feminine in the past, however this year we are seeing floral patterns that are striking colours and bold, much edgier looking.
This is something that Erdem have done very well. They had striking pieces in blues and greens with very bold statement patterns. They did however team this with lace which is another big trend, this made it a little more feminine but with the use of colour and the common use of a shirt and collar (on their runways) it helped to make it more of a statement.
Louis Vuitton has done the complete opposite however and gone with very little colour at all, the 2012 spring runway was mostly white dresses that were very textured with 3D flowers that seemed to pop out. There was also some slight dip dying but only very light colours were used. I have shown the dresses that were shown in pastel colours as these were my favourite ones and so not the white ones. Celebs have also been seen wearing the trend like Lizzie Olsen in dress by Porenza schouler that costs £1920 and Jessica Alba in Erdem.
You can achieve the same look by visiting the UK high street
as I have seen a lot of floral pieces on offer.

Middle parted fringe/bangs

Recently I have changed my look so that I now have a middle part rather than a slightly off side part. I actually really like the look and its something that I've never really tried for more than one day at a time before, but this time I'm sticking with it!
I like the way it looks because its not very common as most people (Ive seen) have a side parting therefore I like the individuality it gives.
In order to make the change I found inspiration from pictures of celebs who have a similar look. I thought I would share these with you and you never know, you might want to rock the middle part too!

Nicole Richie I love her hair like this.

Pradas on fire!

For spring/summer 2012 Prada have designed some "firey" designs that are guranteed to make anyone look twice. I have to say that I fell in love straight away after seeing them in this months ELLE magazine. They are a pair of shoes that feature flames and the back red lights featured on Cadillac 1950's cars which I have now realised after watching Top Gear (as I thought their were exhast pipes or somthing!) from the back of the shoe. They have done several designs all with the flames, and on some flowers and bows at the front too.
They have a certain vintage look about them that I also love. They are trying to imitate the comic look with bright colours etc and also large 1950's style cars which they also featured on some of their other clothing which is just as striking.
These shoes really are a party piece and I would love to own them in my wardrobe!

The green and yellow design.

The same design being worn.

Another black and red design with a flower.

Yet another version with mini exhausts.

Chanel Cardigans

One of the most iconic pieces that Chanel have made is the Chanel cardigan. They were worn, and designed by Coco herself and they have been living on strong ever since. There are so many different variations in the recent years and therefore there are a lot of copies too.
Most of us cannot aford to spend hundreds on one item therefore I have found some other similar cardigans on the UK high street which look just as well made and divine as the real deal! I liked them that much that I now have one myself.
My favourite way to wear the chanel look-a-like cardigan is with an oversized plain t-shirt, long length leggings and knee high suede boots. This look is understated and looks very sophisticated in my opinion, it isnt over the top and it can look good on most people.
Another way to wear this would be to wear skinny jeans, shoe boots or flats and a vest top like alexa chung, another look that would be great for casual wear.

Natural vs Full on

Make-up is applied in different way's and amounts depending on the person and their style. Some like to look natural but at the same time beautiful, as if to be born that way. Others however prefer to make a statement and to have all over glamour including their make-up.
These two looks are both used on the Catwalk/Runway shows and they are both very much signiture styles. Therefore it says a lot about a person by which of the styles they choose.
I have picked out a couple of photos for each style to highlight they are both just as beautiful and dramatic.

Another natural shot I like the

Karen Gillan a true fashionista

I have been watching Doctor Who since the beginning (the newer ones not from the 60's or whenever!) and the newest assistant Karen Gillan is not only a great actor and model shes also a true fashionista. I really like all of her looks especially her street style. Therefore today I have rounded up just a few of her looks to share with you that I really like, some not just for her clothes but for her hair and make-up too.
Shes also quite tall which makes me feel better as I'm near to 6 ft at around 5ft 11 I think! There is also a really cute picture of The Dr with a cuddle cushion pal which I wanted but felt to silly to actually buy! ( I'm still quite childish! )

Just a little editing I did.
I love the complete over-the-top red with this look!
This picture makes me want to die my hair!
A classic mac and an Ipad (Im guessing) im very jealous.
This is just too cute, it makes me want a cuddle cushion sooo bad!
